With the debut product called “R”, the main vocalist of BlackPink has set a series of new records in both digital music and album sales of solo artists in Kpop.

Five years into her career, Rosé (née Roseanne Park) of Blackpink reflects on her journey to the top in her debut solo single. Fans all around the world rushed to buy and stream the poppy cut. The album includes 2 songs On The Ground and Gone which are highly appreciated in both images and quality.

The title song “On The Ground” became the music video with the highest number of premiere in the world (1.2 million views) on March 12. In just one day of release, On The Ground quickly reached more than 41.6 million views. At present, “On The Ground” looks ready to become the rare song by a South Korean solo act to hit the Hot 100, but where it will place is tough to predict. It gives Blackpink fans another look into Rosé’s perspective on everything the quartet has achieved since their debut in 2016.

The anthemic song, sung entirely in English, has also broken records on YouTube with its explosive music video. This achievement helped the YG female idol officially surpass the 8-year record with 38.4 million views of Gentleman (PSY) to become a Kpop soloist with the most-viewed MV after 24 hours releasing.

In terms of album sales, according to Hanteo , Rosé’s debut product has sold 282,674 copies in just one day since its release on March 16. This means that the lead vocalist of BlackPink officially broke IU’s record with 147,856 Love Poem copies in the first week.

Even before its release, Rose’s two-track album – the second song, Gone, is also in English – had already set a record for the number of stock pre-orders by a female South Korean soloist. R also became the first Kpop album of a female singer to reach 500,000 copies since Lee Soo Young’s My Stay In Sendai was released in 2002 with about 509,000 copies. Along with Rosé and Lee Soo Young, only 6 other female solo artists who achieved this milestone are Lee Sora, WAX, BoA, Yangpa, Kim Hyun Jung and Uhm Junghwa.

On the other hand, on March 17, Rosé became the first Kpop solo artist to appear on the TV show The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Before that, she also participated in this show with BlackPink members.
