Asian beauty queen made it at Miss Universe competition
In 1959, after 7 years of Miss Universe pageant, Akiko Kojima was the first Asian contestant to be crowned. With a height of 1.67 m, the Japanese representative was a contestant with a modest height compared to other contestants. At that time, she was only 22 years old. Apasra Hongsakula is the first Miss Universe Thailand to be crowned Miss Universe in 1965. Currently, she holds the position of judge at the Miss Universe Thailand contest. She was crowned Miss Universe 1988. Simon was the first person to receive the same award at the same time, top prize and best national costume award. At the age of 53, Simon is now a famous philanthropist. Simon is the chairman and founder of the Angels Wings Foundation and on the board of directors of Pepperdine University, USA.
Sushmita Sen is the first Indian beauty to win the Miss Universe pageant. She was 18 years old then. After winning the beauty contest in 1994, Sushmita Sen became a famous Indian actress, having won many major acting awards. In 2020, she won 5 Best Actress awards through the film Aarya.

Lara Dutta was crowned Miss Universe 2000. Before that, Indian beauty won Miss Intercontinental 1997. Winning two major beauty contests, Dutta became a sought-after star in Bollywood.
